a look at the competition: the buccos

March 31, 2006

whats there to say about the pirates? a lot actually.

they got some really good young starters in oliver perez and the phenom zack duke. they are stacked with lefty pitching, i did not know one club could have so many lefties. their bullpen is decent, better than the reds, a lot better. they got some good young relievers in there.

their outfield is above average, and having jason bay does not hurt. they also got their centerfielder, duffy, who they are very high on. i think he has tremendous power potential. they got the ever steady burnitz, he is good for 25 homers, a .250 average and 70-80 rbis. that about average for a corner outfielder.

they have also added joe "the joker" randa. i hate his smirk, but he is good. he is at least average, a dependable major league hitter that plays good defense. they also acquired sean casey, who i think is great. they basically got him for free. he hits for very good average, not much power, and really good obp. so thats a plus. so, the buccos are on their way up, its going to take a while though.

prediction: 68-94, 5th place in the central

thats great, but be carful not to piss off any fans, because you never know what they’re going to do. they might be angry because they have not won a w.s. since 1918 or something like that.
