some good news and some bad news

wainwright throws a gem

a lot happened this weekend. some of it was good, some bad and there is the worst news of all.

lets start of with the good shall we? our cards took two out of three from the houston astros. this gave the cards their first and second wins of the season, a series win on the road and stellar pitching from the rotation.

on friday, adam wainwright dazzled by pitching seven innings of one run ball and also doubling and driving in a run (the cards first of the game) and chris duncan went three for four with two doubles and a two run homer. the cards won friday’s game 4-2. also, izzy got his first save by closing that game.

on saturday, anthony reyes had pulled a tough assignment. he went up against roy oswalt, houston’s ace. oswalt delivered houston’s first win that night.

reyes was shaky in the first and second innings, but settled down latter. he clearly did not have his stuff, but he worked through it and went five innings (95 pitches thrown i believe) and allowed three runs.

later in the game, he seemed to get his stuff back slightly. one other positive thing is that his velocity was back up again. his four seam fastball was constantly at 92-93 miles an hour which was really good to see.

no one hit that game, brad thompson came in after reyes and gave up two homers to lee and berkman. lee’s was a crawford box shot that barely snuck over the yellow line. tje

the cards lost this game to roy and the ‘stros, 5-1. oswalt was just fantastic, unhittable.

yesterday’s game had kip wells going against old college teammate jason jennings. wells pitched a spectacular game, i mean it was just great.

kip pitched seven innings of phenomenal baseball. the guy only allowed one hit and it was a bloop single by mark loretta.

he also struck out seven and walked one.

pujols finally came out if his offensive slump going 2 for 5 with a single and a two run homer.   scotty rolen also had a big day going 2 for 5 with a base clearing double in the 9th inning against lidge (he collected 4 total rbis).

molina joined in the fun by going 3 for 5 with three rbis.

the cards demolished the astros sunday, 10-1.

now, to the really bad news and it has to do with the ace of the staff, chris carpenter.

carp will not make his start on tuesday due to some newly found elbow soreness/locking.

he played toss on friday and let it rip on saturday for about 50 pitches in a bullpen session and he apperently had some discomfort in his elbow on sunday when he arrived at the ballpark.

he is back in the stl today getting his elbow checked out by the cards medical staff and getting an mri.

my question is, why not get him an mri right after he felt this “discomfort” in his elbow a week ago?

here we go again with the cards’ oblivious ways of dealing with injuries.

now, the team is left without there ace for who knows how long. it could be a start or a couple months worth.  he might need surgery to heal or just time off, who knows?

well, i’ll just hope for the best and see what happens. blake hawksworth is rumored to be the guy that might get called up and get the start against the pirates on tuesday.

thats a rap folks, have a nice day.
