Introducing…

March 10, 2008

…my 2008 fantasy baseball team. yes, my league’s fantasy draft was last night (sunday night). I think it went pretty well. every manager has a lot of talent on his/her team because there were only 10 teams in total compared to previous years’ total of 14 and 16 teams. bloggers made up a large portion of the managers in the league with some readers and other players sprinkled in. some notables that I noticed participating in the league are: Redbirds Fun, Rockin’ the Red, Cardinals GM, Cardinal Nation Globe, Readin’ Redbird and maybe some others that I have missed.

let’s get to the team. here they are:
Round Pick Player Position
1. (8) Prince Fielder 1B
2. (13) Grady Sizemore OF
3. (28) Troy Tulowitzki SS
4. (33) Josh Beckett SP
5. (48) Hunter Pence OF
6. (53) Justin Verlander SP
7. (68) Francisco Rodríguez RP
8. (73) Chipper Jones 3B
9. (88) Roy Oswalt SP
10. (93) Roy Halladay SP
11. (108) Plácido Polanco 2B
12. (113) Kenji Johjima C
13. (128) Josh Hamilton OF
14. (133) Jason Isringhausen RP
15. (148) Jeff Francis SP
16. (153) J.J. Hardy SS
17. (168) Chris Duncan 1B,OF
18. (173) Tim Hudson SP
19. (188) Jeremy Hermida OF
20. (193) Ubaldo Jiménez SP
21. (208) J.D. Drew OF
22. (213) B.J. Ryan RP
23. (228) Matt Garza SP

I took a couple of risks, but if they pan out it should be will worth it. for example, I took B.J. Ryan as a “wait and see” project to see if he fully recovers from his surgery fully or not. I don’t need a closer because I drafted k-rod and izzy, but if he goes back to his old form, I can flip izzy for a player that I might need at that time.

I picked 8th in the first round and I was praying for pujols to drop that far, but the fear of his elbow injury only dropped him to 6th. here is how the first round went down:
Round 1
1. Chase Utley/ St. Louis Ca…
2. Álex Rodríguez/ CardinalNati…
3. David Wright/ CardinalsGM.com
4. Hanley Ramírez/ Readin’ Redbird
5. José Reyes/ Romnification
6. Albert Pujols/ Rockin’ the Red
7. Matt Holliday/ Cards Fan 4 …
8. Prince Fielder/ Redbird Rene…
9. Miguel Cabrera/ Red Birds 08
10. Johan Santana/ Warning Trac…

I was kind of surprised that utley was the first pick, I expected it to be A-Rod, H. Ramirez or even Holliday or the power 1B combo of Howard/Fielder. good thing prince was available at the 8th spot because he adds a lot of pop to my lineup if he can duplicate last season, get close to it, or even improve (I’m crossing my fingers for him to stay healthy all season).

At the end of the day, I think I have a pretty good team. I’m not looking to do much, I would just like to finish at least in the top 5…I would happy with that.

That was an awesome draft last night and good luck to everyone who is participating in the league.
