2nd trial at winning the series

May 21, 2008

so, last night did not go so well did it? pineiro pitched decent, until he got into trouble and make that single mistake…which equated to three runs via the homer route.

the offense was fairly silent and barton, now a fan favorite, is really struggling. its gotta be the playing time; he has not been getting much lately with schumaker, ludwick, ankiel and now duncan hitting so well.

I expect him to come out of his funk, but it will take time. chris perez pitched a nice clean inning; walking one, striking out one and not giving up a hit.mcclellan did the same as well, a 1,2,3 kinda inning.

at the end, the cards lost this game, 3 to 2.

tonight, tlr is going to rest the regular middle infielders, izturis and kennedy. cesar has been hot with the bat over the last three weeks or so and he even hit a homer the other day! on the flip side, kennedy seems to be in a slump and a day off maybe just what he needs.

so that means, the real ss, ryan, will start at shortstop and AAA miles will start at 2nd base. lets see what they can do against the awfully tough (at least against the cardinals), chris young.

opposing young, will be looper. you can only hope for the best with him. when his stuff is on, he gets quick outs and ground balls, but when he can’t locate pitches low in the zone, he gets bombed, at least historically. this season he has been a little better at grinding out innings and limiting the damage. hopefully, he will be sharp today because the cards need to win this game because the padres are just horrible!
