Once an Ally now an Enemy

August 8, 2008

so, I thought the game against the cubbies was a night game, then I get on and find the cardinals tied withe cubs in the 9th at 2.

it figures, I should have remembered that the cubs play a lot of freakin’ games in daylight. so, it did not turn out so good.

looper was pretty damn good, and lilly was pretty good too. I’m getting that sinking feeling that the leftyphobia seems to be back and the cards can’t seem to hit lefty starters anymore. first kershaw and now lilly.

remember, their best shot at taking this series was to win today’s game because it seemed like the most favorable matchup.

cards pitching all around was pretty good. they limited a great offense to only two runs in 9 innings…that sounds good to me.

now comes the bad part; one of the hitters in the cubs lineup had two homeruns and both were solo shots obviously (since they only scored 2 in 9 innings). let’s see….he plays centerfield and hits lefthanded with pop….yep, it was jimmy ballgame…yuck!

I could never in my wildest nightmares could have seen this coming. sure, he came in here in july as a cub but it was still busch staduim and h did not really do much…he went 0 for 7 during that july 4th weekend series.

now, it happened in wrigley and he was in a cubs uniform and cubs fans probably gave him a standing ovation…it hurts deep down in my cardinal loving soul everytime I think about it. he even made a real nice shoe string catch on a jam job by yadier into the area behind the shortstop.

so, franklin walked the leadoff man in the 11th and then loaded the bases with no out…result: aramis comes up and singles the other way to rightfield and the cubs win it in extra innings, 3 to 2.

tomorrow, it does not look good pitching matchup wise. big Z will battle the colonel todd…that means the cubbies have the upper hand but let’s hope zambrano has a bad game for once.

in the finale sunday, carp will face dempster; this pitching matchup looks much better. why? well, because of carp’s last start…man he was really good. hopefully, he can pitch 6 innings this time. maybe if he is being very economical, tony can push the envelope and get 7 innings off of him.
